Our family Halloween theme this year is Outer Space, with Michael as the half-Vulcan/half-human Spock of Star Trek fame, Amara and Rosemary as blue-skinned aliens, Felicia as a Saturn V rocket, Blaine as an Apollo 11 astronaut and Jason as a Space Shuttle Commander.
This year's costumes are dedicated to Felicia's Dad, who passed away not long before Halloween, as Felicia was busily sewing away. She still managed to pull everything together so that we had the costumes completed ahead of time and so the family could attend the memorial service out of town.
My astronaut jumpsuit was a faux white "pleather" and the girls had sequin material that required Felicia to go really slowly when sewing. Numerous times she had to deal with broken thread and needles. As always, I am proud of the final results.
Where did you find the huge cylinder for the rocket? Because I have a Church camp that is outer space themed and I wanted to make that. It is such a great idea. And did it cost a lot to make that? because I kind of am on a low budget.
ReplyDeleteThe tube was completely constructed. I started with wooden embrodery hoops and connected them with a few vertical slats. The outside was covered in white posterboard and painted. The nose cone was made from various size funnels and the tail fins are just cardboard. I constructed the rocket in two parts so it is easier to get in and out of the costume. If you click through the links you'll see a picture with the rocket in two parts. The cost wasn't exhorbitant, but it does take time to create.
ReplyDeleteWow-you guys are really cool! We did the Wizard of Oz theme last year, but lacked enough family members to have the Wicked Witch. I'm thinking that a space theme is in the cards for this year's Halloween extravaganza. We already have an astronaut costume on hand.
ReplyDeleteFound you guys through digg.com, just wanted to say you guys look like a great family. Thanks for sharing your fun halloween photos with the world.
